Why 9 and 10 November both appear
Pratipada spans parts of two civil dates. The city listings select different worship periods within that span: Mumbai uses an evening window on the 9th, while New Delhi uses a morning window on the 10th.
A national holiday list cannot settle your local puja schedule. If you follow a temple, ask which date it observes before booking travel or ordering food. The countdown here deliberately follows the New Delhi morning window.
What Annakut adds to the celebration
Govardhan Puja recalls Krishna lifting Govardhan Hill. Annakut is the associated offering of food, including grains and vegetables. The dishes and scale vary between homes and temples.
If you are contributing to a community offering, ask the organisers what they need. Another large tray of a dish already promised by three families is less useful than filling a gap in the menu.
Plan the offering and the visit
Separate the puja time, food delivery time and visitor hours in your calendar. They may be three different appointments.
- Confirm the local date with your family or temple before buying ingredients.
- Agree on the dish, number of portions and delivery container with the organiser.
- Label ingredients clearly when food will be shared.
- For the Delhi morning observance, finish shopping and non-cooking preparation the previous evening.
- Check when prasad distribution starts before inviting guests to arrive.
Leave room between the Diwali visits
Diwali falls on 8 November in the site's New Delhi calendar. Govardhan Puja follows on 10 November and Bhai Dooj on 11 November. The familiar five-day festival sequence does not always fit five consecutive civil dates.
If relatives follow different regional calendars, send the full weekday, date and city with your invitation. A message saying only ‘the day after Diwali’ is easy to misread this year.
